Notes On Sri Satyavara Teertharu

Notes on Sri Satyavara Teertharu
(Information  obtained from Uttaradi mutt website and other reliable sources)

Parampara from
Sri Satyabodha Teertharu
to Sri Satyaparayana
Teertharu

Sri Satyavara Teertharu.

After Shri Satyasandha Teertharu,  Sri Satyavara  Teertharu adorned the great Peetha of Sri Uttaradi Mutt. During Sri Satyavara teertharus period Sri Uttaradi mutt was also referred as
Sri Satyabodhamutt, indicating the impact of His Vidya guru on that days society.

An interesting fact is Sri Satyavara Teertharu,
His Guru Sri Satyasandha Teertharu, His Shishya
Sri Satyadharma Teertharu
and later Sri Satyaparayana teertharu all had a common Vidya Guru in Sri Satyabodha Teertharu.

Sri Satyavara Teertharu was a great Jnani.

Desciples(Shishyaru) of Sri Satyabodha Teertharu
Sri Satydharma teertharu(Sri Satyavara Teertharus Sucessor) gives entire credit to Sri  Satyavara Teertharu for one of His works proving Sri Satyavara Teertharus enormous siddhi and tapas shakti

Sri Sri Sathyabodha Theertharus period saw Sri Uttaradimath gain name ,fame and riches, The math  earned immense wealth as various donations from Rich Zamindars and devotees which included Golden Bow of Sri Rama’s idols, golden thrones for the idols, gold & Silver jewelry and priceless pearls.

(Haveri Vamsa)
All this possession  was carried during the sanchara of Sri Satyavara teertharu. These riches of Sri Uttaradi Math were the target of dacoits and petty thieves who were devising ways take away the riches.

On morning of Ashada Shuddha Chaturdasi,  a thief took away the  box containing the sacred idols of Sri Rama and  Seetha from Sri Satyavara teertharus room,  His Holiness after the bath found the  sacred idols missing and informed all His Shishyas to search.

After futile efforts and no breaktroughs in finding the sacred idols,Sri Satyavara teertharu felt He was being tested by Lord Sri Rama for a reason, and took a vow to fast until the sacred idols were found for performing pooja.

After the incident Diwan Poornaiah promised His Holiness to find the stolen items and persuaded Sri Satyavara teertharu to give up the total fasting.

Sri Satyavara Theertaru never accepted  giving up the fast, and kept his vow by performing daily pooja, deep meditation accepting only teertha.

On the 21st day, the Sacred idols were  discovered by Sri Navarathna Annacharya on a plaintain leaf without jewelery ( was returned by thief)

Sri Navarathna Annacharya(later Sri Satyadharma teertharu (1797-1830)) handed over the sacred idols to Sri Satyavara Teertharu.Sri Satyavara Teertharu was overjoyed and after sanctifying the idols according to the Shastras, commemorated the incident in a grand manner which was also paticipated by Diwan Poornaiah.

The twenty-one days of fast took its  toll on His Holiness and was unable to recover from it completely, Sri Satyavara Teertharu decided to appoint a successor and found the person in Sri Navarathna Acharya  who had the capability to take over Sri Uttaradi Math and perform the Pooja of Sri Rama and His Parivara.

Sri Navarathna Acharya  was also Sri Satyavara Teertharus batch mate and shared common Vidyaguru in  Sri Sathyabodha Theertharu.

On Shravana Shuddha Panchami, Sri Sathyavara Theertharu named his successor as Sri Sathyadharma Theertharu entrusting Him to carry the torch of Vedanta knowledge forward.

After two days  on Shravana Shuddha Sapthami, Sri Satyavara Teertharu left the mortal body at Naamgondalu.

Sri Satyavara Teertharus  Brindavana is sItuated in Santebidanur just opposite to Sri Mukhyaprana Devarus temple. (Diwan Poornaiah personally oversaw the Brindavana construction.)

It is said that even remembrance of Sri Sathyavara Theertharu is capable of destroying ones sins and get the Divine grace of Sri Seetha Rama.
